The Mohar Of God

We read in Scripture that God paid a great price for us. This might be hard for us to fathom, considering that God owns everything, and He's all-powerful. So how could anything really cost Him or be hard for Him? Messiah linked salvation to the ancient Jewish marriage, in which the bridegroom had to pay a visit to the house of the bride. He had to offer her the 'mohar' - 'the gift that proved the groom's love for the bride.' Therefore it had to be costly for the groom. In the same way, God is our bridegroom, and He paid a visit to our house 'earth.' In accordance with the ancient Hebrew marriage, He then had to pay the mohar. It wasn't silver or gold; it was the offering of His life on the cross. So, how much does God love you? The answer is right there on Calvary, just look at the Mohar. So is it too great a thing that God asks you to pay a price for the love of Him when He has paid so great a price for the love of you?
