The Blessing of Eating Insects

Sunday, March 2, 2025

Yochanan the Immerser, also known as John the Baptist is called the greatest of men and yet every day he ate insects; locust. Elizabeth being a Jewish mother probably wanted her son to get married, but eating grasshoppers, and living in the wilderness aren't exactly great selling points. Thus, he was a bachelor because if he had managed to get married, it wouldn't have been long before Mr. and Mrs. Baptist would have been in counseling over the locust issue. Instead, he was the greatest of men living the greatest of lives - not married, in the wilderness, and living on insects. Whether or not you will live a great life in God has nothing to do with whether you are married or single, whether you live in a large house or a humble one, whether you eat filet mignon or canned tuna, or whether you are rich or poor. John didn't have much by the world's standards, but he had everything by God's standard. He obeyed God and fulfilled His calling. You do the same. Obey God, fulfill your calling, and the life you live will be the greatest.
