The Air-Conditioned Bee Hive

In Hebrew, the word for 'bee' is 'deborah,' as in Deborah the prophetess. Bees have a secret practice that is literally cool. In the summer, when the beehive begins to get hot, bees have a way to keep the colony cool and at a constant temperature. They begin positioning themselves in strategic places within the hive and start rapidly beating their wings, lowering the temperature in the hive, and blessing their fellow bees. It has to be one of the first examples of air-conditioning. So what do these air conditioning bees teach us as believers? We need to be cool, too. It is our responsibility to keep each other cool. When your brother or sister is getting into some uncool things, your job is to keep them cool. When a brother or sister begins to get hot around the collar, it's your job to help keep them cool. When others are falling into conflict, it's your part to calm them down, to be a peacemaker, to maintain the bond of unity. Be cool in the Lord. Seek to stay in the Lord's peace. Stay cool in the Lord and cool down thy neighbor.
