In the ancient Hebrew betrothal, the Khatan, the Bridegroom would make a special visit to the house of the one he wanted to marry. He then had to be willing to pay the bridal price for her hand in marriage. The woman would then be asked if she was willing to give her life to this man. The one who pays the price is the bridegroom. There are many things in life you can give your heart to; the pursuit of money, ambition, success, fame, comfort, marriage, pleasure, a career, a cause, etc. Most people live their lives giving themselves to one or another of these things. But the bride must only give herself to the one who will give Himself for her - the One who pays the price for you. He is your Khatan, your Bridegroom. Don't give yourself to the gods of this world, none of which have ever given anything for you. But give yourself completely to the only One who gave Himself completely for you. He alone is the Bridegroom of your soul.
